Supporting Get Online Week in Australia

There are lots of ways to get involved and help promote the Good Things Foundation’s international digital inclusion campaign.

Since 2007, Get Online Week has helped more than half a million people in the UK find support to make the most of the internet.

This year, we’re inviting organisations across Australia to join our community campaign Get Online Week between 15 - 21 October.

There are two and a half million Australians who are not online. We know that with a little extra support, we can help people take their first steps to improve their digital skills.

Get Online Week Australia will see hundreds of organisations hold community events, encouraging people to try 1 thing new online.

Get Online Week is an opportunity for all of us to talk about the benefits of getting online. Together we can ensure that every Australian is able to thrive in a digital world.

We’d love to have you on board, and there are lots of ways to get involved:

Hold an event

If you work with a network of organisations, ask them to get involved in Get Online Week by hosting a #try1thing themed event.

The campaign is an opportunity to talk to your customers, members or community about the benefits of getting online. Whether it's a BBQ, morning tea, Tweet-a-thon or online scavenger hunt, hosting an event is a great way to engage with local people in a friendly way.

We’ll provide all event holders with support including event ideas, marketing materials and social media stories.

Talk about Get Online Week

We know that not everyone who’s passionate about digital inclusion has the capacity to hold or attend an event. If that’s you, we’d love you to get involved by sharing the Get Online Week message. Why not:

  • Promote Get Online Week on social media. The more voices that join together to shout “#try1thing”, the greater reach the campaign will have. Make sure to use the hashtag #try1thing and tag us @getonlineweekAU so we can repost!

  • Encourage your networks to take part. If you represent bank or shop branches, libraries, sheltered housing locations or job centres, encourage them to hold local events and reach out to the people they serve, helping them to Try 1 Thing.
